Devotion:

Introduction:

Life can be filled with hardships, challenges, and moments of brokenness. In the midst of our pain and sorrow, it is comforting to know that we serve a God who hears our cries and draws near to us. Psalm 34:17-18 in the King James Version assures us of the Lord's attentiveness to the righteous and His close proximity to the brokenhearted. Today, let us find solace and hope in these verses, knowing that we are never alone in our struggles.

The Cry of the Righteous:

The psalmist declares that the righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them. As believers in Christ, we have been made righteous through His sacrifice and redemptive work. In our moments of distress, when we feel overwhelmed by troubles, we can turn to God with our cries and prayers. He listens intently to the voice of His children and responds with His unfailing love and faithfulness.

Deliverance from Troubles:

Not only does the Lord hear the cries of the righteous, but He also delivers them out of all their troubles. Our Heavenly Father is not indifferent to our struggles; He actively intervenes on our behalf. Though our troubles may seem insurmountable, we can trust in His mighty power to bring deliverance. He is our refuge, our stronghold, and our rescuer in times of trouble.

The Lord's Nearness to the Brokenhearted:

In addition to delivering the righteous, the Lord draws near to those who are brokenhearted. He does not distance Himself from our pain and sorrow but, rather, embraces us in our moments of brokenness. He sees our tears, hears our cries, and offers His comfort and healing. When our hearts are heavy with grief, disappointment, or loss, we can find solace in the nearness of our compassionate God.

Salvation for the Contrite Spirit:

The Lord not only draws near to the brokenhearted but also saves those who have a contrite spirit. A contrite spirit is one that is humbled, repentant, and surrendered before God. When we approach Him with a sincere desire for forgiveness and restoration, He extends His saving grace to us. He is the God who heals the brokenhearted, lifts up the humble, and restores the contrite.

Conclusion:

Psalm 34:17-18 in the King James Version reminds us of the Lord's attentive ear to the cries of the righteous and His nearness to the brokenhearted. In our times of trouble, distress, and brokenness, we can find comfort and hope in knowing that God is with us. He hears our prayers, delivers us from troubles, and offers healing to our wounded hearts. Let us lean on His everlasting love and draw strength from His abiding presence.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your attentive ear and Your nearness to the brokenhearted. In my moments of distress, I cry out to You, knowing that You hear me. Please deliver me from my troubles and surround me with Your comforting presence. Heal my brokenness, Lord, and grant me the peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to have a contrite spirit, ready to receive Your salvation and restoration. In Jesus' name, Amen.
